This horrible election has shown that our country is coming violently apart, much more deeply divided than we realized, on class and ethnic lines that have come to match the partisan divide. I've always opposed the idea of a third major party, mainly because of the structural barriers it faces, but now I think a third party confidently opposed to populism is necessary, because the only way to unify our country is if we divide it three ways instead of two.
