This is such a weird dance that's been going on since Bolton announced on October 23 that this meeting would take place. This was just after Trump's decision to abrogate the Intermediate Nuclear Forces treaty because, he said, the Russians were violating it. https://t.co/jL0b5WOTTQ— Sessions of Sweet Silent Thought (@Yastreblyansky) November 11, 2018
Yet there they were planning a summit in Paris, on Veterans Day no less. Putin complained about the treaty getting broken, but he couldn't stop smiling and telling jokes. What, in the first place, was up with that? https://t.co/52fvxH8nLd— Sessions of Sweet Silent Thought (@Yastreblyansky) November 11, 2018
Then on November 7 the Kremlin announced that Putin and Trump would have a "short working lunch". https://t.co/5puyIEFDh7 As well as longer meeting at the G-20 meeting in Argentina in December.— Sessions of Sweet Silent Thought (@Yastreblyansky) November 11, 2018
He wasn't even sure Putin would be showing up! https://t.co/cUEbZSkjTE While everybody seems to have forgotten it was Bolton and Putin who made the original announcement and the connection to INF.— Sessions of Sweet Silent Thought (@Yastreblyansky) November 11, 2018
And by yesterday various US parties, including Bolton, were confirming nothing much was likely to happen; out of respect, they said, for President Macron, whose party it was, and not wishing to make the story about themselves https://t.co/zivZvwutLm— Sessions of Sweet Silent Thought (@Yastreblyansky) November 11, 2018
Now he doesn't seem able to hang out with anyone. After missing the ceremonial visit to American graves at the Aisnes-Marne Cemetery this afternoon because of "travel complications caused by the weather", he skipped tonight's dinner. https://t.co/iYKyUvbKmp— Sessions of Sweet Silent Thought (@Yastreblyansky) November 11, 2018
He's been holed up in a Paris hotel room since a short morning meeting with Macron, watching TV and tweeting, and it's almost as if he were refusing to come out! Stay tuned. https://t.co/id1avnwcxI— Sessions of Sweet Silent Thought (@Yastreblyansky) November 11, 2018
I mean by now it must be close to 24 hours he's been in there. An alternative, presumably drier cemetery visit has been arranged for this morning, and then the working lunch, so presumably he will in fact leave eventually, but what's wrong with him?
