Love the quotation marks, and that exclamation point! Via Jezebel. |
I really should have put a bet on this, which I predicted by some significant number of hours ahead of the Washington Post scooping it:
Trump allowed Scavino to compose a sympathy tweet addressed but not @-ed to the McCain family, complete with a full-length portrait of himself, because what would be better calculated to soothe their grief, but he's evidently refusing to sign off on a formal statement. https://t.co/PnZUqV8vhH— Yasphalt Jungle (@Yastreblyansky) August 26, 2018
Why? I think it's obvious, he's demanding a text that doesn't say anything positive about McCain, and nobody can come up with that. Eventually he'll give in, presumably, but his hatred of McCain (for being praised while everybody agrees Trump is a jerk) is implacable.— Yasphalt Jungle (@Yastreblyansky) August 26, 2018
And then five and a half hours later,
The White House drafted a statement praising McCain as “a hero.” But Trump nixed it and has refused to praise the fallen American hero. A @jdawsey1 exclusive —> https://t.co/5aQhr2krf5— Philip Rucker (@PhilipRucker) August 26, 2018
As I expected https://t.co/ZWJ1o8Cr7E— Yasphalt Jungle (@Yastreblyansky) August 27, 2018
I did not predict that East Wing troll Melania Trump would show up to issue her own statement:
She's getting bolder. https://t.co/IQYGxtpDEz— Yasphalt Jungle (@Yastreblyansky) August 26, 2018
