Update below
I guess it's perfectly true that Trump has not courted Italian fascism—yet. I mean, there's not as much Italian fascism kicking around for him to deal with. Other fascisms, from Britain to the Philippines, are another matter, as is Stephen Bannon's apparent interest in the "radically anti-egalitarian, anti-liberal, anti-democratic" writings of Baron Evola, but I think it's a more lively question whether Silvio Berlusconi, currently making some kind of comeback, is courting American fascism with his frequent praise of the most Berlusconian of US politicians. Anyhow where was I?It was FDR, not @realDonaldTrump , who cut deals with virulent racists & courted Italian Fascism while in the White House #TheBigLie pic.twitter.com/ucOxylOf7V— Dinesh D'Souza (@DineshDSouza) November 18, 2017
So somebody shows up with an ambiguous message. Not sure what it meant, but thought it might be a teachable moment:By the way, was Winston Churchill a leftist? Is that why he admired Mussolini so much? https://t.co/v0PoValcB7 pic.twitter.com/3LOH8Je3Ks— Yas We Can (@Yastreblyansky) November 19, 2017
Don't think I disagree with you too much on that. D'Souza definitely disagrees. He has written a book claiming that fascism is a "leftist" ideology and citing FDR's early "praise" of Mussolini as proof. I'm showing that conservative world leaders also praised Mussolini.— Yas We Can (@Yastreblyansky) November 19, 2017
Wrong!
A tiny bit of googling demonstrated that this clip wasn't from Bill Clinton and had been bizarrely decontextualized and misinterpreted (I didn't give her a link for the attachment, because it came from Snopes, which these people regard as Communist Propaganda Central):The point D makes is the radical movement often disguise themselves as the other side. This takes form in propaganda. Thus, confusing unaware citizenry. The argument shifts from the actual crimes, to which groups' beliefs caused the crimes.— Mercy Warren ☮ππ (@needajobbad) November 19, 2017
Just like @billclinton did here π pic.twitter.com/xnrgGKi3Hv
Mercy wasn't having any of it in any case. That wasn't Bill Clinton but Bill Ivey of the National Endowment for the Arts, who probably didjn't mean what you seem to think he meant, as he later remarked; pic.twitter.com/V1a7TneYs1— Yas We Can (@Yastreblyansky) November 19, 2017
Well, Ivy said something similar! Politicians are propagandists!@BillClinton wrote this email to @DNC. It was verified.— Mercy Warren ☮ππ (@needajobbad) November 19, 2017
You must also be a Propagandist! Switching the truth to a lie by throwing in something off-topic. Thanks for proving D's point! pic.twitter.com/fpccNkgGuD
Please look at the entire WikiLeaks page. https://t.co/BIgRQjwgfz Whoever showed you that snip and said it was from Clinton was lying to you. pic.twitter.com/tvPmvlDb9E— Yas We Can (@Yastreblyansky) November 19, 2017
Hey nimrod!— Mercy Warren ☮ππ (@needajobbad) November 19, 2017
I'm not your personal assistant!
Now, to your email is correct & verified! So, is this @BillClinton email!
You've over-stayed your welcome at my time-line. pic.twitter.com/YvKwZs2QZj
That's the thing that gets to me. Not just that she refused to look at the link containing the incontrovertible proof that I was right, which is par for the course, but that she's downright pissed off with me for suggesting it. Not your personal assistant!
Addendum:
No, I didn't even get to that. The reading, which should be impossible on its face for any literate person to make, is that it reveals a secret Democrats' plan for dictatorship pic.twitter.com/VMLADc4gdb— Yas We Can (@Yastreblyansky) November 19, 2017
See the Snopes link for the whole story, though not the part about misattributing it to Clinton, which exists among the bats in Mercy's belfry.
