Chris Cillizza, CNN opinionist, covered the Trump interview with Hugh Hewitt that we dealt with as a Literary Corner piece. He covered more of the story than I did, but did a shockingly bad job of it:
Cillizza is baffled in part because he's an idiot who doesn't do his homework. For example, the story of the Trump-Baradar phone call isn't news; it was well reported at the time, first by the Taliban, then State Department, then Trump himself. https://t.co/bWuvaLRkqF

Trump knew pretty well who Baradar was at the time of the conversation; he was the head of the delegation in Doha, who had just signed the withdrawal agreement, along with Pompeo, days before. US had gotten out him of Pakistani prison two years earlier for that purpose. pic.twitter.com/16vxvXAM5z

Trump has a purpose, which is to convince Hewitt-and-the-base that he had nothing to do with the agreement he and Pompeo made with Baradar and the Biden administration carried out (with a three-month delay). Which is absurd, because the record is pretty complete. pic.twitter.com/WIuMx0OFNj

It's an entirely alternate story in an entirely alternate universe
Hewitt, of course, isn't interested in the truth, but Cillizza is derelict in not trying to find out even a little about what actually happened, and choosing to be "baffled" instead. He reinforces the "he-said-she-said" climate in which the press acts as if nothing is knowable.
